The final day of the Cheltenham Festival gets underway with the grade one Triumph Hurdle. The race normally attracts a large field and the two mile race often resembles little more than a cavalry charge. As a novice event many inexperienced horses are likely to participate and those not used to running in large fields are probably best left well alone. A fifty percent success rate from the betting favourites in the last four years supports this tip quite well.

Barry Geraghty took a step closer landing the 2003 Cheltenham leading jockey title with his fourth success of the meeting on Spectroscope. In a tightly run race the 20/1 shot Spectroscope fought off several late challenges and crossed the line only a short head before Well Chief. Coming to Cheltenham with winning form had elevated Well Chief into a strong position within the betting market and despite a fine performance the ground was slightly against his liking. With sufficient change in the going, Well Chief is sure to feature again at Cheltenham in 2004. The third place was taken by the 11/2 favourite Golden Cross who despite a slow start was the strongest finishing horse in the final furlong and with slightly softer ground would have been a great deal nearer to the winner.
