As with many races featuring a huge field at Cheltenham, the National Hunt Handicap Chase often provides a shock result. Looking at past winning trends offers no help in looking at the form and over the last seven runnings of this race the favourite has failed to justify his position as the betting market leader each and every time. With the horses running over three miles in this event stamina is obviously the key characteristic to look for in your selection and as always try to look for a horse that can act on the going that day. With so many entrants in this race each-way betting is the obvious attraction and about the best advice we can offer.

The JP McManus owned Youlneverwalkalone clinched the 2003 Cheltenham National Hunt Handicap Chase in nail bitting fashion, hanging on under pressure to win the event by less than one length. He had entered the final turn looking full of running and only a great show of determination was able to beat off the challenge of Haut Cercy. Without a mistake by Haut Cercy four fences from home it could have easily been a different story. Ad Hoc took third place for the second successive season.
